New NES Emulator for Windows
WinNES 0.0.4 is a new NES emulator for Windows. In fact, it's the only freeware one. Yes, there was an old (now unsupported) version of Nesticle, but it only ran in full screen; WinNES supports windowed and full-screen modes. The graphics are a little choppy, and a lot of games still don't run (notably SMB3), but it's pretty fast, and the color is generally tolerable (just don't run it in 256 color mode; set Windows to 16-bit for best performance). As this is only the first release, and WinNES will undoubtedly get better, this is probably one to watch. You can get it at http://members.tripod.com/~Karakiri/.
Activision's CLUB: A new, legal ROM source
How do you get old Atari ROMs free? And legally? Believe it or not, from Activision. This isn't exactly new; it's been around for a couple months, but it's finally starting to pan out. All you have to do is go to http://www.activision.com/club/, and signup. Activision releases a new Atari ROM every month to members. Previously, the ROM was Pitfall; this month they have Fishing Derby and Stampede. (In case anyone was unaware, Activision released some of the original Zork games for free a few months ago to promote their new Zork game. They can be downloaded from the Download area of the Activision site.)

Old News (June 21 - July 3)

Yes, I know it's about time, but I was out of town last week, and I was just plain lazy this week.

z26 1.06 Released
Yes, again. Give John Saeger credit; he's updating frequently, and doing a good job at it. z26 is becoming one of my favorite emulators. It's graphics are usually more stable than PCAE, though the color isn't as good, and some games have still have bugs in them. It's even faster at some games than PCAE. Anyway, you can get version 1.06 at http://www.whimsey.com/z26/z26.html.
